- Bard Composix Kugel Mesh Hernia Patches
Hospitals and surgeons use the Bard Composix Kugel Mesh Hernia Patch to repair hernias. This patch has a memory recoil ring that is supposed to open after the patch is positioned behind the hernia. As a result of rings breaking, patients have suffered bowel perforations and experienced abdominal pain, fever, and soreness. The FDA recalled these patches.
- Zimmer hip implants
Zimmer hip implants, also called Zimmer Durom Cups, created extreme pain, and required subsequent surgeries for repair and eventually replacement. Legal arguments ensued as to whether the device was defective or surgeons had been inadequately instructed on how to implant them. Read more>>
- Shoulder pain pumps
Use of a shoulder pain pump for pain management on patients recovering from shoulder surgery has destroyed joint cartilage and caused permanent shoulder disability. Because the cartilage cannot regenerate, some cases require shoulder replacement. A patient may need a number of replacement surgeries so he or she can retain shoulder function. In severe cases, the patient may completely lose the ability to use his or her shoulder, and doctors may need to amputate the arm.
- Medtronic Defibrillators
Internal Medtronic defibrillators are heart implant devices that shock a heart beating abnormally back into normal rhythm. Defibrillator lead problems resulted in Medtronic voluntarily recalling several defibrillator models. Patient symptoms when the device malfunctions often include the following:
- Shortness of breath
- Fatigue
- Fainting
- Heart palpitations
- Multiple shocks
